I say check craigslist! There are lots of people looking to sublet their apt/house because of a transfer. We've been there with bad credit but thank GOD we are moving out of that. We've gone through 5 lay-offs in 4 years. We're moving to VA now from MI(where things are really bad) for a solid job opportunity.

Credit scores can tell a lot about how responsible someone is...it doesn't give the whole picture but it is important. I say pay your bills, don't run up the credit card and you will not have to worry about a bad credit score!

So what does one do when they have an ex who's used not only my ssn but my 7 yr old's as well? And used it well enough that you can dispute all you want but hey, he was at the same address as me at one time so I must have ordered those credit cards, or purchased those online things because the purchases were made from an IP address registered to me. It's easy to assume that everyone's credit is due to their own mis judgement. Then here I am, 32 with a child and in 6 days will be homeless because a woman was going to rent me her home, changed her mind and kept the $1400, and no one will rent to me (including the cheap apartments, because there are judgements my ex caused on my credit I have fought and couldn't get removed.

That sounds like a really sucky situation. Have you talked to a lawyer about the judgments? Is it an ex-husband or ex-boyfriend? You should also consider suing the person for your money back, if you did indeed give them $1400 and they're now keeping it.

America is a consumerist nation- stop trying to keep up with the lastest $250 jeans, shop at walmart and learn to save money. It's not that hard to to cut back on spending, it's just that people don't want to do it-- I do hope the op finds a place. But if you have bad credit, 9 out of 10 times you probably got yourself there by not being responsible! That's why we need to make sure high school kids understand how important credit scores are...
