Flying in this Saturday. What should I check out?
I will be re-locating in Mid May to Richmond and my gf and I are flying in this Saturday for the first time. Any suggestions on places to visit, tourist areas, etc?

I am moving back to MIAMI soon thank god!! This place has gottin to be a joke. I grew up here and I came back for college. Mistake! people think they are hot crap in "Cough" VA! give me a break. anyway hey you may like it. But the only thing here to do is well movies......there is alot of history here and thats about it I guess? Kings Dominion is here. I have family in MA :-) they love it.

I'm sure that was helpful for the OP for his upcoming visit. You should've transferred to a school in Florida if it was such a mistake. Richmond, like most cities is obviously pretty different from Miami. People like and dislike places everywhere.

I'd take a look at Carytown, perhaps Shockoe Slip, Belle Isle, the Canal Walk, Maymont Park, some of the museums (depends on your interests). there are some great restaurants in the Fan, Downtown, and elsewhere... definitely nothing like the cookie cutter suburban chain restaurants.

The Chili Cook-off is this weekend, the Richmond Kickers have their opening game tomorrow night, several concerts (specifically at Toad's Place Richmond, The National, and Innsbrook Afterhours) etc etc.
