Question Motor Vehicle Laws & Requirements

Just doing some more research for my move to the Richmond area later this year. I'm looking for some info on motor vehicle laws and requirments. Are yearly vehicle inspections required? Is yearly registration required? Is proof of insurance required to register your vehicle? Is there an excise tax when you register? What is the yearly base cost to register a vehicle? Are radar detectors legal?

There are annual inspections... I think they cost about $15 now (General Assembly may have increased them). Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia.

Annual vehicle inspections are required.
You can register your vehicle each year or choose to do it every two years.
Insurance is required in VA.
Personal property taxes apply to vehicles, with VA's car tax relief taking some of the hurt away.
