50 and Moving from New York (Richmond, Springfield: apartments, rentals, homes)

Hi,

I am starting a new job in the Glen Allen area (in July) and would like some information on maintained rentals within a 10-15 minute commute. I am a very active 50 y.o. female, and want safety, not too many dogs around, nor college age kids. Thanks for any help you can give.

I don't live in Richmond but I was impressed with the Glen Allen area when I visited there. It seemed like a rather "stuffy" area so I don't think you will have any problems with the neighbors, noise, etc. Good Luck!!

I live out in the country beyond Glen Allen, but I'm there all the time for errands. There are lots of new/newish rental communities to choose from. It's a bit far out for college kids (although there are some, no doubt). You can probably find a pet-free complex if you want, but Virginians are big on their dogs, and take them everywhere they go when it's not too hot. The area is reasonably "safe," whatever that means anymore. I don't think you'll have any problem finding what you want, but it will probably take a weekend or two down here to get a feel for where you want to live.

Just so you know, Glen Allen used to be a very localized area, but has become the name-of-choice for a sprawling suburban area north and west of Richmond. It might be difficult to tell how far/how long a commute a place will be from your work unless you're here in person to see for yourself.

If you look along the Nuckels Road area of Henrico (Glen Allan) I thing you will find several places that an empty nester would find appealing.

You shouldn't have a problem finding something that close to work. Here's a list of apartments close to Innsbrook. These start close and go further out as you go down the list. You'll have to ask about pricing.
