Default Welcome to Hanover

Mafrida,

Sounds like you are getting alot of info regarding the area. What school will you be teaching at. I worked for Haonover Schools for 8 years and spent alot of time in them all as well as having kids at Cold Harbor now. I am living very near to the town of Mechanicsville...

Depending on the school you will be teaching at, Ashland can be a bit of a hike these days (with gas prices) and is further from the City of Richmond if that is where your husband ends up.

The route 301 corridor between Interstate 295 and Hanover Courthouse lies centrally between most of the county schools and provides easy access in and out. There are also several apartment selections there.

There are also some newer apartments on Route 360, which runs through the actual Town of Mechanicsville.

I have lived in Hanover all of my life. Though it has traditionally been a very rural county, the zoning board has allowed substantial retail development on the 360 corridor from Interstate 295 east and is currently developing the 301 corridor.

Traffic can be annoying to those of us who remember quieter days, but it never rises to the level of "city" traffic.

I think this has been said several times, but you will only pay personal property and real estate taxes. Within the city limits of Ashland you pay additional real estate taxes as they maintain their own police department and such.

You can find cheap new single-family housing at "MacCauley Park" near the intersection of Rt 360 and Rt 33. The area is called Central Garage or Aylett.
