Default A new job in Henrico County

I was just offered a job in Henrico County. If I accept this position, I will be moving from Western NY in July. I need more information... from best places to live (for those in their twenties) to what people are like, etc... etc... Thanks for your help!

Check out some of the other threads in this forum for information.

Would you be looking to rent, or buy? What part of Henrico is the job? (That county is pretty long, and it makes a difference on what end you're working at)

Some of the food is different down here, but they're going to build a Wegman's in Fredericksburg next year! (less than an hour north of Richmond) So you can buy some of the foods you're familiar with there... (We just drove up to Fairfax to go to the Wegmans up there to get some things that you can't find down near Richmond... so it's on my mind)

Thanks Eric D... I'm not sure where in Henrico I would be working... I'm a teacher and am first hired by the county then placed in a school at a later time. So I could end up anywhere. Can you tell me more about the different areas of the county. Also, you seem somewhat familiar with wny. Is the cost of living comparable? Lastly, I plan on renting an apartment so more info on that would be great too!

oh... I also need some recommendations on gyms and fitness clubs in the area.

Gyms... American Family Fitness is pretty popular and Gold's Gym is around here as well. Then there's always the Y.

oh no... western NY is dirt cheap really. My family is all from Buffalo, and I know there you can get a decent house in the 100's... here, not so much.

An affordable place to live, that would not be too far of a commute from any area in Henrico, would be Ashland. It's right off the highway (I-95), which you could take south, then go east or west on 295, or stay on 95, depending on what part of the county you are working in.

My best friend lived in Ashland, and rented a townhouse... 2 bedrooms for about $750 a month. It wasn't in the best community, but it felt decently safe, considering how low the rent was.

Down here the YMCA is popular. The most popular local gym is American Family Fitness, as RichmondPics said, and of course Gold's Gym.
