I'm going to be moving to the Richmond, VA area soon. Does anyone know of the safest cities within 20 miles of Richmond? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your help!

Give us an idea of price range and place of employment and we may be able to pinpoint an area a little better for you. Also, will public schools come into play?

Default Price Range

I'm hoping to not pay any more than $250,000 maximum. The most important thing to me though is safety.

I need to be within 20 miles of Richmond. I'll be going to the VA there.

That shouldn't be a problem. What about the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, type of community (HOA? rural? new construction?), are public schools a consideration?

I recently moved here myself, so I went through the same thing.

Also, will you be receiving treatment at McQuire or working there? Reason I am asking, is just wondering if you want close proximity to Ft. Lee if you have commissary benefits. (That's definitely a money-saver for me these days!)

Not sure how much research you have done, but I've got some links on my website that might help you.

You mention you want a low crime area. I think all of the counties surrounding Richmond have a low crime rate overall, but the areas closest to city limits are a bit higher than the areas (of the same county) further out.

Give me an idea on some of the questions I listed and I will be happy to send you some listings I find on the MLS.

I'm looking for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, around 1200 sq. feet one-story home or townhome. I wouldn't want to be connected to more than (max.) 3 other families. I need the smallest yard possible. I'd rather it not be more than 10 years old max. The main thing about area is that it's safe and quiet. Not real close to an airport or anything. My son is an adult, so no, schools aren't a consideration.

I was in the Army, so I think I'll need to go to the VA in Richmond for care. Yes, I have commissary priviledges.

I've looked up real estate all around the Richmond area; but, I don't know which areas are safer. I'm moving from out-of-state.

Man, I would really recommend my community, but I'm like 25 miles north of Richmond, and the VA Hospital is on the south side of Richmond...

Maybe you could look at Brandermill? It would be right down Hull St. from the Hospital, and is a nice established community on a good sized lake. You should be able to find a good home for under $250k.
