You guys know what I mean and I am not talking about metropolitan or geographic statistics.
Originally in my first post I stated "City of Richmond" so you can twist and bend your variation of the city limits all you want. In my reply to WineCountry I clearly said "maybe" because if I had my way I would not live in ANY city of Virginia. Perhaps I should have at least settled for a more respectable Alexandria. Unless of course the city of Richmond extends up to there too right?

No. I DON'T know what you mean or I wouldn't have brought it up, and I gave up ESP for Lent. Perhaps you can expound on it, so we'll know what area you are or aren't talking about when you tell us about how bad Richmond is. Obviously we disagree, because there are parts of what I consider Richmond that are excellent. Precisely what do YOU mean by it, geographically?
I consider an MSA a city. Example: I visit the southside Richmond area several times yearly. I met my wife in the Richmond area, got married there, lived there for several years, and intend to retire to Virginia-I think I have some idea of what consists of Richmond. I don't tell people 'I'm going to Chesterfield County, just south of Richmond across the James River.' I say 'I'm visiting Richmond.' See how that works?
Clearly you don't, personally, consider the MSA Richmond. But you have some geographic area in mind when you are critical of Richmond and apparantly aren't willing to share that with us-you just feel like being critical.
And the whole state is bad? Come on. You really, really need to get out of Virginia for awhile and discover when you have lived somewhere else long enough to get a driver's license and establish state domicile there-'Dang...it's not better here, either.' Oregon's rainy, Colorado's dry, New Jersey is too built up (except for the Pine Barrens), Hawaii has a weird Asian feel, Georgia is hot. There, I've given you five other states (that I have actually lived in) and five generic, unassailable complaints to use when you get there.

Yes. I see how your definition of "Richmond" works. Apparently you like to go by the MSA. Congrats to you. I really do not know what else you're looking for..

I just have trouble understanding why Chesterfield would rank more highly (to you) than Richmond... Wow. Urban sprawl and housing developments just don't do it for me, I guess.

I guess we're just going to have to disagree then. The areas immediately around a city really help define the city. Your definition is nonsensical to me, because so much of what I consider makes Richmond desirable is technically not in the city limits, but *just* beyond them-but I guess we can agree to disagree.
I'm not sure why if you think your complaints are limited to the city of Richmond itself, you don't move about 5 miles away, because then you'll be outside the city-in the MSA. If it's the state itself, good luck on your move, but fair warning: it's not better anywhere else.

And to be fair there are some of us who rather like living in the city.

Amen to that. To me it's the City that defines and makes the metro area attractive. Guess everyone is looking for something different though.

Okay..I'm going to tip toe in here again ever so softly. I am the one who asked Anders15 his opinion on places. I have family in VA, but i will be the first to tell you that i have no clue as to how things are broken up, etc.
Are you guys saying that Chesterfield, for example, is actually a part of Richmond? I thought Richmond was Richmond, and Chesterfield was Chesterfield, etc. So, if you live in Chesterfield, are you kind of considered as living in Richmond??

Same here but apparently the entire eastern part of the state is Richmond.
