How would the aquarium be paid for?

Wilder chose to locate the National Slavery Museum in Fredericksburg... in my opinion, his hometown would have been a much better choice. If you've been keeping score, the site in Fredericksburg still sits idle. I suspect if Richmond was chosen it would already have been built by now.

There are many smaller museums, monuments/historical markers and trails signifying the African-American experience in Richmond, yet I don't think they are marketed properly as a unified package. Our small Black History Museum in Jackson Ward does the best with what it has, but I think it is certainly inadequate for a place like Richmond. It's location is a good one, in the heart of the former 'Harlem of the South,' but again I think it suffers from poor marketing.

FYI, the Jefferson is a privately owned for profit hotel operation... so different from a non-profit organization operating a museum. Who is "they" referred to in the last paragragh??

A portion of Richmond's African American past was paved over, knocked down, destroyed decades ago, largely because decision makers then just didn't care. I think today people are making greater efforts to honor the sites you mention. Having the National Slavery Museum located in Richmond would provide a major anchor to all of the other sites related to African American history, creating a major destination.

THANK YOU RONMAVERICK!!!!!!!! Although I'm from the falls church/arlington area and have only lived in Richmond 2 years...I cannot wait to get out. Everything you said is true. It's just something about this city. Everyone back home would tell me "Dont move to Richmond its a hole" and I didnt understand what they meant until this past year. I cannot wait to move.
And the whole "everyone is so friendly here" argument is BULL

You're 20 years old and have spent your entire life in one city... I think that explains quite a bit about what you speak. It doesn't matter if you grew up in Richmond or Boise or San Francisco...

Do you have aspirations for college? It's a great tool for getting out of the place one grew up and experiencing more of the world.

You're 20 years old I've been on 4 continents and in 31 states. I lived in NY for 39 years and just moved to Midlothian. There are problems and issues everywhere Sitting home and ranting about things usually doesn't bring change .....you know what I mean?

I'm already in college. As far as me spending my entire life in one city what am I supposed to move? With what? To where? Do you think it is more practical for me to move than for this city to stop pocketing all the money and actually build something practical apart from all the eyesores? Look at Henrico. They have laptop computers for school students and a new mall right by the airport. They've become their own postal address now from Richmond. Chesterfield is working on doing the same. What is Richmond City doing? There are plans to add a baseball stadium .. yeah i hope u guys prey on that. We should have a lot more downtown than ..parking lots. I don't see how anyone can argue with that, I really don't.

And to mike.. this is for you, I'm guessing this is what you are looking for :
