Move to Richmond?
My husband, 6 month old baby and I are looking to leave NYC and Richmond is on our list of potentials. We're tired of the dirt, noise, insane traffic and even crazier prices. What we do love is the diversity and the ability to walk anywhere. From what I've read, Richmond could offer these things. We plan on visiting sometime next month and it would be great to have an idea of where to start looking. Also, I've read a lot about the rehabilitation of many of the city's neighborhoods and would potentially be interested in moving to a place that's on the up, but still a bit sketchy, while not too dangerous.Any suggestions as to neighborhoods would be much appreciated.

There are definitely some great options for you in Richmond (city proper). What's your price range?

Ideally, we'd like to stay below 200K, 2-3 bedrooms with some type of outdoor space, which seems like its do able from ads I've seen.

Carver is really coming around, so is Jackson Ward (where i live)
I think if you want a neighborhood that's on the up (in transition) then one of these neighborhoods might suit you

I agree - you have many choices in the Richmond area. It is difficult moving to a new area and having so many options. I think if you could draw up a "must have" list for a neighborhood as well as the house and a similar "like to have" list and share this with a realtor, he/she could assist you in your visit as well as send you a selection of homes for you to visit.

Check out the Museum District / West of the Boulevard neighborhood. The Fan, while a good option, may end up being a bit pricey for you if you're looking to buy right away. There are also some neat neighborhoods south of the river like Westover Hills. Northside neighborhoods like Ginter Park, Battery Park, or Bellevue might be worth a look.
This might be a good resource for you to at least become familiar with many of the neighborhoods. Neighborhoods of Richmond, Virginia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Good luck!
