I'm a 22 year old female looking to enroll at VCU as a grad student and want to know which is the safest area to live in Richmond. I've heard the area around the campus isn't too safe. Thanks for your help!!!!

Well, keep this in mind. VCU is an urban campus. By this, I mean it is sprawled out. The area around the main buildings of VCU are safe, but I would stick to the Fan district, since it is the closest, and safest area near VCU. Avoid Jackson Ward, which is in close proximity to VCU campus, but not a very safe area.

I would say area around campus is quite safe... but anything in the Fan (west of Belvidere between main and broad) is going to be ideal... hopefully within a walking distance (a few blocks) of campus... its a great area with interesting houses/apartments and good restaurants, bars, and music... yet it is very calm neighborhood with plenty of families too

If you are on the MCV (medical campus) try Churchill or parts closer to downtown. Great night life and good restaurants

You might want to check with the campus housing office. I remember during orientation for my daughter they had some pretty good information on off-campus apartments.
