Hi we have visited a few areas in Chesterfield and it looks like we will be relocating from Long Island NY. I would love any info regarding schools, fitting into the area , shopping... etc... thanks!! Our kids are 15, 8 and 6.

That's pretty broad. Give us an idea of some things that are most important to you and your family... public v. private schools, where one (or both) of you will be working, city v. suburb, buying or renting and price range. Things like that may help us steer you a bit better.

A lot of this info is also available via the search tool at the top of the page. There's lots of school and neighborhood information already posted that will be useful for you to read as you refine your specific questions.

Best of luck.

About your shopping question, there's new & existing malls/shops within 30 minutes of Chesterfield.

Default shopping

I'm not as familiar with Chesterfield (we're in Short Pump), but you won't have any trouble with finding big box stores nearby. I am a mall snob (I'm not proud of that) and the area has two very nice malls--Stony Point Fashion Park and Short Pump Town Center. Chesterfield Town Center would be convenient for you, but doesn't have the higher end anchors (don't know if that matters to you). There are also some nice smaller shopping areas like River Road. The shopping scene here is quite good and has improved significantly over the last decade.

Stay in NY too many Damn Yankees coming down here and ruining our tranquility and quality of life, with their horn blowing and rudeness. Oh and of course speeding thru the Parking lots of Walmart and Target.

Thank you for your information. I am very impressed with the research I have done on the schools. It looks like we are between Midlothian and Cosby High schools in the areas we are looking in. The info given on the builders is very helpful, we have spoken to Ryan, Orleans and Toll Brothers- Any thing more on that would be great. My husband will be working with St Francis Hospital

Where are you moving from on the Island? And what made you pick the Richmond area? (Just asking, 'cause I've had the same thoughts.)
