New USPS Plant
I have heard that they are building a new USPS plant by the airport. Does anyone know anything about it? Such as the progress of it, what road it is on etc. I currently do not live in VA but will be putting in for a transfer soon. Any info would be greatly appreciated

i talked to my manager today ,the plant is still being built and still scheduled to be up and running by the end of next year. the Richmond area (we are under Capitol Metro) is going through many changes. Routes are being cut ,some stations will not have carriers ,only window operations and as people find themselves forced to move to other positions ,stations ,etc ,the Richmond area may end up with an excess of people. this ,i understand is one reason for the hiring freeze.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately this is the same thing that is happening nationwide in the postal service. I currently live in NJ and they are doing the same thing. In your opinion, if I am planning to move down there July 2009 when do you think I should put in for the transfer? By the way, I'm a mailhandler, if you think that makes a difference for transferring.

i transferred down here 21 years ago from Brooklyn and began the process almost a year ahead of time ,although I was new in the PO.my suggestion would be to contact Human Resources now to get the ball rolling. also you can apply for a transfer online. at one point I wanted to transfer over to the clerk craft ,put in requests online to different local areas ,but never heard a thing. i do not think it is too early to contact someone to get your foot in the door. although our main PO is at Brook Rd. in Richmond ,I believe Human Resources are now handled out of someplace in North Carolina. good luck.
