Need help in Richmond!!!
Hi! We are moving from Cleveland to the Richmond area for my boyfriend's work. I have found a couple of nice apartments, but I found a review page and people are saying that they were held at gun point and their cars were broken into. Is Richmond a high crime area? Only 2 of the 10 apartments that I found had decent ratings. I have read other postings and they are very helpful. I see Carytown a lot, where is that? Do you guys know names of good, safe apartments complexes? Please give me any helpful info!! Thanks so much!

I wouldn't live in Richmond if I were you... There is a high crime rate. My best friend and his wife live in some town homes in Ashland. They seem pretty nice. You get off I-95 onto Route 54 west. Take that to Rt. 1, and then turn right. Go like 1/4 of a mile, and it's on your right. (second set of townhomes, the sign says Ashland... and the bottom is covered by bushes)
Anyways, they only pay like $800/month for a 3 bedroom town house, and it's only like a 20 min. drive to downtown richmond, and you're close to the Virginia Center Commons (mall) and 295 if you need to go east or west of Richmond.
Just a thought.

and when you drive to richmond after breezewood take I-70 east to to I-81 south to I-66 east get off at (exit 28) rt 17 south and follow 17 to I-95.
this will save you big time by avoiding washington dc. (traffic is terrible in DC)it should take 8 to 8 1/2 hrs with just stopping for gas.
if you go I-77 south to I-64 east it is about 100 miles farther but wv speed limit is 70 .

He will be working at the 3 T J Maxx stores in Richmond, so he doesnt care which one we will be closer to. There is one right by Midlothian, one right to the West of downtown Richmond, and one right by I think it's Carytown. And thank you for the traffic tip!

I respectfully but totally disagree with Eric D. I lived in Richmond for 12 years, just moved, and never felt at risk. I even lived downtown as a single female. Richmond has crime, but it tends to occur in very localized pockets, just like any other large urban area. If you live near the Midlothian location or the West Broad location (even nicer), you'll be just fine. Midlothian is cheaper, but if you all are younger, you might really like the apartment complexes off West Broad. There are lots of people in their 20s and 30s around there. Carytown is a really fun area, but it's downtown and less safe. It's a good place to go out, but there aren't really complexes, just apartment houses. It depends on what you're looking for. If you have any specific complexes you've looked at and are interested in, let me know, and I'll tell you what I know. You might look at SUndance Station, The Gables, Wilde Lake, Dominion West End, The Timbers,Copper Mill, Copper Spring, Broadmoor, The Grove at Swift Creek, Addison at Wyndham, Trophy Club, and Bristol Village at Charter Colony. These are all within 10 minutes of either the Midlothian or West End TJX stores, and are in good neighborhoods. Let me know if you'd like more specifics.
