Despite your persistence to portray almost everything in the city in a negative light, there are many positives occurring all around us. While the population is increasing, key measures of crime (such as homicide) are at their lowest levels in decades.

I think you are just mad that those negative issues are in fact being pointed out on here.

Mad? Hardly... not the best rebuttal in the face of facts. I'm just not naive enough to think that Richmond is the only city that has some of the problems mentioned. No place is perfect... I think it's fair to point out the good with the bad.... and I don't think it's fair to ourselves or others to spout inaccurate statements.

I never said Richmond has more problems than any other city, correct me if I am wrong. I mean it's not like New York or Philly

This thread was created because someone else noticed the condition this city is in. As the state capital I would also expect more from a city but I guess that is just me. We can sit here and argue about what is your definition of "inaccurate statements" but frankly I don't have to. Me and my family has been here for decades I've learned things and seen them for myself. I know how this city works and all.. but I'm not going into details. Either you keep up with the local news & stay informed or you don't.

Compare the "looks" (because that is what this thread is about) of downtown Richmond to other close state capitals like Raleigh or even Baltimore and let's see which city looks the worst. You can see how horrible the streets are from several stories up or just from a sidewalk view. Exaggeration? Go into Google Earth and click anywhere downtown such as Broad Street and look at it in "street view" mode. Streets are like that everywhere here. You ever wonder why every time someone young wants to have a good time their answer here is always Shockoe Bottom? It's the only half decent place in the area with the exception of West end and Carytown for such activities.

Even our own thread for pictures of Virginia contains no pictures of the state capital. There are photos of every other major city except Richmond. It is just ridiculous and embarrassing.

Exaggeration? Yes. You make it seem like Downtown Richmond is a war zone. It is not. Your first photo even shows that part of Broad Street in the process of renovation. Obviously you haven't seen inner city Baltimore away from the harbor

^^. Baltimore's downtown is OK. I could list all the negatives about Richmond but what's the point? Show some pride in your city!

Indeed!
Not to pick on B-more but, as you said, some seem to not have looked under the hood of some other cities as closely as they have Richmond.
I wish some would please go to Baltimore and drive around the city - away from the harbor - and come back and proclaim that urban Baltimore - or DC or Philly etc - does not have similar issues to what some have been complaining about in this post.
ALMOST EVERY older urban city has these same issues.
The entire metro area cannot be a plastic, surburban wonderland.
