Default ISO: Specialty food store -- German bakery

Hey everyone,

I want to make lebkuchen (a traditional German Christmas cookie) and was wondering if anyone knew of a specialty food store that might carry oblaten (the thin wafers the cookie is baked on). I could order online, but I'd rather shop local if possible.

Any ideas where I might look?

Thanks!

Check Nick's Produce on W. Broad near VCU (this is a Greek Grocery Store)
Check European Market & Cafe on Main St. next to Fu Jian and across from Bacchus

Whole Foods out on Broad in the W. End might even have it.

Thanks -- I'll check out Nick's.

Whole Foods didn't have it, and I tried two other European Deli places with no luck, but not the one on Main.

Thanks again!

Have you tried/do you know about: GermanFoods.org - The Taste of Germany ? Oddly I was just (in the past hour) listening to an NPR show on WAMU (Washington), and this site was a sponsor.

I went to the site and used the "find a store" feature to search for Richmond. Arco Iris Latino market in Midlothian was listed, as was Belle Kuisine on Pump Road (Short Pump). The downside would be that Belle Kuisine has been gone from that location for about a year. I know nothing else about the site other than that they sell online, too.

Good luck.
