This is not going to end well. I used to think this side (Glen Allen) was nicer, but now I see the appeal of both sides (good schools, nice housing, good shopping). I would choose based on where your job is. My husband's office is in Innsbrook, so we live in Glen Allen (less than a 10 minute commute). If he worked on the other side of the city, we'd be just as happy there--although Short Pump Town Center is my favorite mall in the area but I realize everyone isn't into malls. I think you have two good choices and you should come down and visit and spend a couple of days in each place to see which fits you better.

Richmond is a rather large metro area -- it would be helpful if you gave us some insight as to the type or character of a suburban neighborhood that you would like. New vs old; PUDs vs communities; price range and house style for example.
We are looking for a house in the $300 to $400 range that is no more than 10 years old.

Thanks

Can you get more specific about the kind of neighborhood you like? Do you want a small or a large neighborhood? Are sidewalks important? Are you looking for a neighborhood pool? In your price range, especially in the current market, you'll have some good options.

Birkdale, Providence, Independence and the Highlands are my husbands favorites. Also, there is going to be a Jack Nicholas course (one of the few in VA) in the new Magnolia Green subdivsion also in Chesterfield. We live in The Woods at Summerford and are convenient to all these. Love the area too...I can't say enough about the schools!

We would prefer a small neighborhood. Sidewalks would be nice but are not essential. A neighborhood pool would also be a nice benefit but is not a deal breaker. Thanks for your responses.

You will definatly get more for your money in the Chester area. I would check out Rivers Bend. It sounds like it's what your looking for.
