Moving to Richmond
My wife and I are considering a move to the Richmond area; either Glen Allen or Chester. We would prefer not to live in Richmond proper but a suburban area. What are the best suburbs near these 2 areas? I am addicted to golf so would like a recommendation on public courses in the area. Thanks

Check out a subdivision called Salisbury in Midlothian/Chesterfield area.
Glenn Allen is a nice area as well, it is newer.
You lucked out, gold is everywhere here!
Willow Oaks Country Club is a classic and Salisbury has at least 2 within the subdivision.

We live in Glen Allen and love it. The positives for us are convenience to shopping in Short Pump, convenience to my husband's work (he works in Innsbrook) and the schools (there are some excellent public schools in this area). It's a very family oriented area--not sure if you're looking for that.
I'm not much of a golfer, but I've heard Hunting Hawk is a nice course.
Hunting Hawk Golf Club
ETA: I don't know if you're looking to rent or buy (I'd recommend renting to get a feel for the area) or what your price range is, but Wyndham, Twin Hickory and Wellsley are large Short Pump subdivisions that you might want to check out.

If you are looking for a public course, Chester has River's Bend. And then The Highlands is private. There is also Birkdale, but I don't know if that is public or private.

Richmond is a rather large metro area -- it would be helpful if you gave us some insight as to the type or character of a suburban neighborhood that you would like. New vs old; PUDs vs communities; price range and house style for example.

Glen Allen is the nicer side of Richmond. We have Hunting Hawk Golf Club in the area. Chester isn't too bad of an area either.
