I would check Walton Park area in Midlothian too. There are some nice affordable homes there as well as down Huguenot towards Bon Air.

I saw a report about budget shortfalls and believe they said the ratio would go up by 1 student per classroom in Chesterfield. I would check on that statistic thoroughly because I have never heard 35 students per classroom.

Also, Hull Street Rd has been expanded and has not had nearly the traffic issues it did a year or so ago. Midlothian Turnpike is also crowded as is Broad Street. Any major road like that will have backup's if there is an accident, etc.

Good luck! Hope the interview goes well!

The 35 class size I quoted may be an exaggeration. (I was repeating what I'm hearing from some of the Chesterfield staff.) HOWEVER, if you'll pull up the Richmond Times Dispatch on line, today's edition, you'll see that it reports 525 positions will be eliminated (teachers, administrators & support staff), including 58 reading specialists and "classes will grow by 5-6 students...")
Chesterfield's budget problems are much worse than the budget shortfalls experienced by other counties due to less tax revenues. Chesterfield is having to pay back a huge wad of money to the Feds because they WAY over estimated the number of students this year and, as a resulted, were given more federal funds than they should have. We're not talking about belt tightening, or cutting back on a few programs. The kind of cuts they're having to do will be deep and painful.

I couldn't find the article on the Times Dispatch's website. I still don't see how cutting 340 teachers increases class size by 5-6 students. That's about a 25% increase in class size which would mean Chesterfield only has 1700 teachers. The school system's total staff is 7500. I doubt teachers only account for 23% of the total staff. Everything I have read said they are talking about 1-2 extra students per class. That's not necessarily great, but I personally wouldn't categorize those cuts as deep and painful either. I seriously hope people don't overlook Chesterfield because of possible misinformation.

Sent you a private message...congratulations on getting the job! I don't know the Midlothian area, but do know the Glen Allen area and that is very good.

God bless your home search, your move and your settling in!
