I'm a photographer at VCU and I'm going to be doing a project on abandoned buildings so I was wondering if someone could tell me about some. I already know about the ones around belle isle.

If memory serves me correctly, there are some on Grace between 2nd and 9th... There are some on Broad near 6th Street...

Have a great time! I have my degrees in photography as well!

Drive down town. Don't get out of your car though, you might get mugged.

Well obviously if you get out at night, at day however seems very busy downtown. Anyways like I said there are a lot downtown but you might want to hurry, there are many plans which will see them taken down for newer stuff.. the new stadium for downtown just got one step closer to being real today!

There's a difference between abandoned and vacant right? If by abandoned the OP means buildings like the old power plants on Belle Isle, then there aren't that many downtown.

Near Rockett's Landing is the remnants of an old Brewery on the banks of the James. It's mostly flooded but I'd seen some neat photos of it. How about the old Fulton Gas Works? There's an old Theater in Church Hill that is in pretty terrible shape as well. Unfortunately I don't know the cross streets but maybe you could ask around?

It's like any other urban area. It's best to know where to and not to go, when and when not to. I've lived in the belly of the beast for 8 years, so far so good. That's not to say I don't keep my eyes pealed, day and night.
