?? Relo from Pensacola, Fl to Richmond area
I am so happy to read all of these posts. You do not know how helpful the questions and answers have been. There are a few questions I have regarding older kids and neighborhoods as well.
My girls attend public schools here but we are thinking about privates when we move. BUT what I would like to know is if I take a position at Bon Secour in Richmond and most likely find residence in Chesterfield or Henrico, what public schools are the best (middle and high)? I need an awesome band and softball/cheerleading programs in each. What private schools?
Also, with the position at Bon Secour, what would the commute be for me to those areas outside of Richmond?
We have found several houses on Realtor.com that we like in Surreywood, Qualla Farms, Northern Chesterfield, etc. We really like the 2-3 story homes with land (.75-2 acres or so). We also like the older homes that aren't "cookie cutter" houses. If you know what I mean.
We are Baptist and would be looking for a church home. Please anyone who can answer would be great. I would also like to hear from the people who posted a while back and have moved since.
Thanks again!

The US News Blue Ribbon High Schools were Midlothian in Chesterfield County and Deep Run and Godwin in Henrico. For middle schools, Short Pump and Pocahontas are very good schools. Again, I'm sure there are other great middle schools, but I only know the reputation of these two. I'm fairly familiar w/ Short Pump (a newer part of Western Henrico) real estate and it is a lot of cookie cutter subdivisions with one-third of an acre lots. There are some exceptions (Shady Grove Estates and Cross Creek in 23059). I'm sure there are other neighborhoods that might fit your needs, but I don't know.
We are non denominational Christians, but we generally attend Southern Baptist Churces. We've had a very hard time finding a church home in this area. Immanuel Baptist in downtown Richmond has a great pastor. Bon Air Baptist is a large Southern Baptist church that we also liked. Grove Avenue Baptist is another good church.
