Default Moving to Colonial Heights area with husband's new job. Where to live and to avoid?

Hello! I've been reading many posts today and everyone seems very helpful so I decided to start my own thread. My husband will be working in Colonial Heights and we will to looking for a home 200-300K. We do not have kids but a safe, pretty area is what we are looking for. We don't mind driving a bit for the city life, but it would be nice to live close to my husband's job in C.H. Something specific that would be a nice bonus is nearby tennis courts. I'd love to teach lessons or just be able to go play conveniently. Also, a very pressing decision that must be made before we even see VA is our temporary living decision. The company is going to pay for a furnished apartment for a few months while we look for a home. We must decide between River's Bend apartments connected with the River's Bend Country Club/Golf and River Forest which is directly west from there on the west side of 95 at the south end of Iron Bridge road. Please help, this decision is stressing me out because we've never even been to VA. Safety is a top priority. Thanks for your time!

I suggest you consider Midlothian. Close to Colonial Heights, close to Richmond and has good schools. Colonial heights is pretty nice also, but not that much to do. Welcome to the Richmond area.

For the temporary move, go with River's Bend. One exit away from Colonial Heights using I295! :-) Also, great area for evening walks! There are tennis courts in RB, but you'll have to check with the apartment management to see if the residents have privileges.

River's Bend is very, very nice. Crime is low in the tri-cities area with the exception of Petersburg. You should also check out Walthal Mill subdivision or Walthall Creek. It is a little older than River's Bend, but it is so lovely with hills and trees. I used to live in Walthal Mill and loved it. You do have to travel to Richmond for most entertainment or dining, but it is a short 35 minute drive to most things. Colonial Heights has a nice mall, SouthPark Mall, and they have a new cinema complex. Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Home Depot, all these places are close by as well. Go to Ceasar's Restaurant (Italian) on Rt. 10. Good place to eat and close to River's Bend or Walthall Mill. Colonial Heights also has an Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, El Caporal (good Mexican food) as choices for dining out w/o having to drive to Richmond. Food Lion grocery store is on Rt. 10 as well, or you can drive to Chester just a few miles down the road to U-Krops and in the City of Colonial Heights is a U-Krops too. Walthall Mill has a Colonial Heights zip code, but it's really in Enon. Enon is between Chester and Hopewell off of Rt. 10. Very close to I-95 or I-295 so getting around is really easy.

Hope this helps.
