Several years ago when my DH was being relocated to Richmond area we also liked the Highlands. On a return trip in the late fall when all the leaves were off we saw behind the community a landfill. That was a deterrent for us.

You can see a landfill from the northern end of Innsbrook
That is one thing to keep in mind when looking for homes in the Richmond area... there is a lot of industry (in general), and a good amount of landfills... so take a look all around the neighborhood before you buy, so there's no shock when you move in.

So true. My DH had a coworker that lived not too far from that landfill and occasionally would smell it.
