Can anyone recommend a lawyer to handle my speeding ticket?

It's remarkably difficult to find anyone that handles Charlotte county (Keysville, VA).

Thanks in advance!

You must have been flying if you are looking for an attorney. Your best bet would be to go in for the ticket, when the judge asks if you have representation, tell him no and that you have been unable to find representation from someone who deals with that county. You will have a better chance if the judge recommends someone (cause lets face it, no one recommends a person they dont like) or if the speeding ticket was not over 80 or 20+mph over (aka not reckless driving) then simply pay the fine and slow down I only say this because if a police officer caught you on radar there is no talking your way out of it in the small counties in VA. They depend on that income to pay bills and very rarely let someone off.

You missed the part about car length in relation to speed. Its usually a car length per 10 mph. So if it were a 45 mph road and you were a car length behind him, then you were tailgating (depending on the conditions and volume of cars on the road at the time).

This is exactly why driving is so scary. Driving a single car length away even on a slow city street is too close. I see people tailgating at 70 mph most days on the highway, then they're surprised when they get in an accident that totals the vehicle (or kills someone).

Word of advice...pay the fine and leave enough room between you and the vehicle in front of you going forward. You should be far back enough to be able to stop should the vehicle in front of you have to slam on the brakes for any reason (e.g. kid running into the road, someone else slamming on the brakes, etc.).

It's hearsay as to what your driving instructor said. All that matters is what the manual stated.

http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/dmv39d.pdf

As to court, you may want a lawyer as this is a 4 point offense that stays on your license for 3 years.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles

If this is your first offense, when you go in front of the Judge request traffic school. You'll have to pay court fees, school fee and sit through a long boring class. But afterwards the ticket will cease to exist and the points won't hit your license.

I think anyone exhibiting that level of competence probably needs to have their license revoked...
