Default Commuting from Richmond to Williamsburg

I am moving to Richmond, but my new job is in Williamsburg.

Anyone have any information about the rush hour commute? From google maps it looks like my commute will be about 55 miles total - mostly on I-64.

I have driven this in an hour or less in the middle of the day, but I am not sure about morning/evening traffic. I am also worried about summer beach people - i have heard this can cause backups as well.

Thanks!

Beach traffic should only be an issue on weekends. The rest of the week depends on what part of Richmond you leave from.

I'll be leaving from downtown - near VCU. Maybe 1 mile from 64.

I am hoping because I am commuting FROM Richmond TO Williamsburg for work, it will be a lot cleaner than if I was commuting TO Richmond for work.

In other words - if I am driving home on Friday evenings towards Richmond, won't I be going the opposite direction of all the beach traffic?

Correct. Still, I don't think Fridays are an issue and once we get past Labor Day, even the weekends aren't an issue. I used to do that commute in the opposite direction and the only hangups were crossing the Shockoe Valley Bridge.
