I will be new to the area shortly......I am looking to purchase a home in Glen Allen. Are there any areas, neighborhoods in that town that are considered better than others? Are there any "bad" or undesirable areas to stay away from?

Well, if you have children and want the best schools you want a home that feeds into Deep Run High School (even if high school is a long way off because the elementary and middle school assignments for homes that feed into Deep Run are generally excellent too). Those houses will have a premium over homes that don't in Glen Allen.

Many of the new developments do not have any areas for kids to play in or sidewalks outside of the development to ride to a local play area/baseball/skateboard and such. Kids are often left at the mercy of their parents driving them everywhere until they can drive and then they will have to have a car. Be sure to check the traffic on a Sat afternoon and weekdays, you must have patience in traffic.

Default Glen Allen

Glen Allen is more of an area and not an incorporated city limit located in Henrico County. I left there after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth Univ in 1995 and I hear it has really grown up. It used to be heavy on the rural and light on the suburban side. Sold my house there five years ago. I really wanted to go back. I miss it...althought Henrico County is one of the most expensive counties in the Richmond area. I just love Richmond!!
