How about Lake Chesdin? Even Salisbury has lakes in it...

I thought that too but Salisbury is a very swim team / golf community whether you subscribe to it or not.

I think peace and quiet (OP says reading, peace and quiet seems to be #1 priorities)

Default Also, Maybe a Bit Farther Out in Goochland?

I agree with the parkrva -- you really have to look at the houses, not just the prices, in this area. Goochland is a little farther out (10 miles from Short Pump commerce -- Barnes and Noble! -- and 5 miles from Rt. 288 access to Chesterfield), but there are large homes on large lots, and it's quite rural and quiet. There are a number of neighborhoods, but also just one-off houses between farms, etc., whether you want new construction or an older house.

Not so "clubby," as some of the other suggestions. It reminds me of Rt. 50 in NoVa, going from Chantilly toward Middleburg about 25 years ago. (Not quite as horsey, but pretty horsey, actually.) There are a couple of lakes, including the Joe Brook Farm area, but the prices are substantially higher. You might try searching Manakin-Sabot or the 23103 zip.

cca9988 is on a distinguished road
I read your post and wanted to reply. My husband and I currently live in the lovely Westhampton neighborhood of Richmond. We are selling our house because we are moving out of Richmond to be closer to family but the Westhampton neighborhood definitely sounds like a neighborhood you would want to explore. The neighborhood has beautiful tree-lined streets, brick homes, many retired invididuals and professional families. We are close to St. Christopher's private school and close to the Country Club of Virginia. My posting for our house is listed on this website. My screenname is cca9988. Please take a look at our posting and reply if you have further questions or comments.

Thanks so much!
