Default Richmond Vs. South West Virginia Politics
I grew up in and around Roanoke, Virginia. After college I moved to Richmond. I actually went to college with a good amount of West End Richmond folks. I have noticed the sharp discrepancy in the ultra social conservatisim that a lot of Richmond folks embrace comepared to those from SW Virginia. The blatant racisim and homophobia that Men and Women around RIC is frankly shocking. I know this mindset exists everywhere, but I think it is much more "in your face" around Richmond.

Just depends on who you interact with I suppose. I live in the City and have found it to be pretty socially liberal. The further out you go, the more conservative it seems to become. Richmond is definitely not a homogeneous area in any category be it politics, religion, race, background ... something I kind of enjoy though it does mean you have to deal with some people from the complete opposite end of the spectrum from time to time.

If you're dressed in Drag off River Road on a Sunday you might get this kind of attitude you speak of...

I moved to the west end in the middle of high school and had nothing but disdain for the rich spoiled insecure kids that inhabit the place
