Default What are the best things about living in/near Richmond?

I the answers can make for interesting reflection. I would be especially interested to hear about the best parts for families.

Thanks in advance.

WOW! Not one person out of the 143 who read this had an answer for this???

Richmond is centrally located. You have the choice of going to the city (D.C.), beaches (VA BCH), mountains (Blue Ridge Mtns), caverns (Luray, Shenandoah, Natural Bridge caverns), great colleges nearby (W & M, UVA), history of Jamestown, Williamsburg, museums (VA Holocaust) etc.

Um those are all nice but don't forget Richmond is the only city with all rapid classes (1 through 5) within its city borders. There are huge islands in the middle of these rivers which many people go and hang out on. The River is actually a huge hot spot for many locals in the hot summer days, and there are many parts of it, not just Belle Isle (pony pastures, and more). White Water rafting is an available activity as is tubing, etc - you name it. There are also many good biking / mountain/hill-type trails located in Richmond as it lays on the fall line.

Lots of things to do in your own backyard and you don't have drive for hours! Many good museums downtown as well, as well as historical land sites. Another good thing about richmond are its relatively safe and family friendly suburbs to the south/west/north. Beautiful old architecture downtown (and there is a law prohibiting modern buildings being built to look like old buildings in richmond, so they are all legit! - not a lot of people are aware of this law)
