When I was in elementary school we would come on these very exciting field trips from Norfolk to Richmond. Back then I though Richmond was a great big city. I really like to post. It is funny. There needed to be a little humor coming from the Richmonders and Richmond seekers. Thanks

Oh but, I was laughing at the OP's post because it is so true. People here ARE close-minded. And all my friends who were born and raised here think they're openminded. But the truth is, they don't know the meaning of that word..
They think that just because we have museums, we've got lots to do! --Ignore the fact that our museums suck big time, I've been to them.
They think that if they invite someone over for dinner from chesterfield county, that's multicultural mingling! ---But they don't have any friends outside their own race. (yes, I'm white)
They think that if they always go to Sidewalk Cafe to eat, and one day they eat at this restaurant down the street called Galaxy that serves the same type of food, then they are openminded about trying new cuisines!
You know you're from Richmond if you talk about how adventurous and outdoorsy you are and how you love to go hiking and to the beach, but never actually do it, and can't remember the last time you did.
You know your from Richmond when you think Maymont is so awesome, and Sticky Rice has great food!
You know your from Richmond when if someone tries to flirt with you, you look the other way because flirting is for shallow people, and a big no-no here.
You know your from Richmond if you say that people here are super friendly, but you yourself don't try to meet someone you've never met, unless it's through a friend of a friend.

LOL..yeah..
I think, for the most part, the name "Short Pump" is now pretty much synonymous with "the mall"....
If you say "Im going to Short Pump" most assume you mean the mall..or at least going to Short Pump for some sort of shopping.
Im not originally from Richmond (or the area) so when people say 'Short Pump' thats all I think of..I think of shopping and strip malls and restaurants and the "Town Center" or "Lifestyle Center" or whatever they call it.
I was on craigslist looking at houses and one of the locations was "Short Pump" and I scratched my head thinking, "People live in Short Pump? "
...lol

Well, it will be interesting when I return to Richmond for a visit this summer. It will be so strange to be in the city where I grew up and ... lost.

-The museums here do suck, if you want real museums just go to DC. I find that the local art exhibits are more interesting than our "museums". We have a lot of great artist in the area.
They think that if they invite someone over for dinner from chesterfield county, that's multicultural mingling! ---But they don't have any friends outside their own race. (yes, I'm white) Again, I think that might just be your friends. Chesterfield or Midlothian isn't that different. A lot of those kids end up coming to school in Richmond and turn into Richmonders.
They think that if they always go to Sidewalk Cafe to eat, and one day they eat at this restaurant down the street called Galaxy that serves the same type of food, then they are openminded about trying new cuisines!
Okay. Sidewalk sucks. We know that. Galaxy sucks. Sticky Rice sucks. We know that. We know that. Have you ever explored the area for GOOD restaurants? I have, here is a list:
Davis & Main
Bacchus
Zeus Gallery Cafe
Pho So1 Vietnamese Restaurant
Siam Paragon Thai Restaurant
Umi Sushi Bistro
Ipanema
Azzurro Italian Restaurant
Kitchen 64
Buz & Ned's BBQ
Verbena
Cafe Gutenberg
Kuba Kuba
Mamma Zu
Carytown Burger & Fries
Okay? Lots of variety here. All of these places are unique to Richmond. Have you been to any of these? If you haven't, then shut the hell up. Richmond has a lot of great food, you have to go out and search for it though. Maybe your friends just like to eat junk?
You know you're from Richmond if you talk about how adventurous and outdoorsy you are and how you love to go hiking and to the beach, but never actually do it, and can't remember the last time you did. Nobody claims Richmond to be the outdoors capital. With any college town, you are going to have people that like to stay active.
You know your from Richmond when you think Maymont is so awesome, and Sticky Rice has great food! Everyone goes to Maymont. Everyone takes a date to Maymont. It's Richmond tradition. Once you have done it a couple of times, it's done. It's not really a zoo and not really a park and not really a garden. It's just someplace to go. I don't hear people talking about Maymont all the time. Whoever does needs to get out more. Regarding Sticky Rice, the food is terrible. I have no idea how they stay in business. Their alcohol sales must add up. SR is just a bar to drink, that's it. It's a bar hop place.
You know your from Richmond when if someone tries to flirt with you, you look the other way because flirting is for shallow people, and a big no-no here. That just sounds like bad luck...Do you have any examples?
You know your from Richmond if you say that people here are super friendly, but you yourself don't try to meet someone you've never met, unless it's through a friend of a friend.

People here are not any more friendly than any other place. Who says that people in Richmond are REALLY REALLY FRIENDLY? lol...
