Default White water rafting

Can anyone recommend a white water rafting trip within a short drive of Roanoke? The outfitter should be able to accommodate various ages from 6 to 50. Thanks.

There isn't much whitewater near Roanoke (the Gauley and New Rivers in WV are good in springtime) but the James River has rafting options that will definitely accommodate kids. Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan is a good start, they have a variety of trip options.

If you are new to river rafting it is wise to go with a good company who has
quality rafts and trained guides. We have always gone to West Va to North
American River Rafters. I know they have been around for over 25 years.
It is north of Lewisburg WV in Minden. We have never had a problem with these folks. I have heard of rafting on the James River in Buchanan but I didn't know there was much whitewater there. It must be a mom and pop operation. If you go to WV you will find motels in that area if you don't like roughing it. White water rafting trips in West Virginia (WV) with North American River Runners

Yep, I didn't mean to imply that the James River was for whitewater. It's a lazy river with some class 1's and 2's, nice for kids & right up the road.

There's James River Float company up around Lynchburg: Virginia whitewater rafting trips - James River, Maury River, Tye River

You can call them and see what they say about the classes they run--I'd guess some of that is water height dependent. There is a place up near Buchanan where I often see people with white water kayaks hitching rides. Perhaps that's where they and Twin Rivers run?

Glad you enjoyed your trip to WV. Goshen Pass, on the Maury river is a great place to kayak when water levels are decent. I believe class IV rapids are created in the right conditions, though I'm not certain about that. But the Maury is great and the area around Buena Vista and Lexington has a very rugged, mountainous feel to it.
