Spent the weekend looking at houses and generally poking around; SW county really is a nice place. Barring the wood-paneling fetish (its literally in almost every house I saw and I loathe the stuff) the houses are great.

Thanks for all the input everyone gave, it was enormously helpful.

I told everyone I know I'm moving to NC in case anyone I know here tries to follow me.

i miss the wood panelled family room we had in roanoke with the full wall length brick fireplace - everything is McHouse anymore (hardwoods, granite, trey, tile,) I like panelling, carpet, flat walls and real fireplaces - guess it shows my age.

Default Finally made it down

Roanoke, being at a higher elevation, is up, not down, from Westchester County, NY.

I made it south then. :P Seriously though, I'm glad to be moving there. It took me three minutes to find free parking in front of the restaurant we wanted to eat at (Corned Beef Co I think?) on a Friday night; unheard of here.

A part of me suspected it was a vacant space because you had to parallel park to get in there.

.

Welcome to Virginia! Glad you like it so far. Telling your friends you're moving to NC cracked me up! Don't you know that's where everyone in the whole country is supposed to move to now?

The best part about moving to Virginia from the North is that you won't be teased about being a "yankee" as much as in NC. I read many of the NC posts for Charlotte, Raleigh, etc and I can't believe how much the locals hate their northern neighbors down there!

My real estate agent called me a "dayglo" without the "y" or the"l". He definitely has my business. We have a good sense of humor "up" here.

Maybe I'm an idiot, or just not up on my slang. But what in the world does that mean? Is it supposed to be offensive? I hope not!

I tried to post the wiktionary definition of "DAYGLO" minus the Y and L but it would not take. You do the math.
