Our girls liked Glenvar schools, at least for high school. They are both in college, and doing very well. Glenvar has good sports programs, and lots of opportunities for dual enrollment college academics as well.

I don't think it is fair to rule out an area because of city schools. A lot of kids do well in city schools. I have heard good and bad from both city and county.

The counties high school grad rate is in the high ninety percents; in Roanoke city its something like 63%?

Default That does not tell the entire story....

Patrick Henry kids score the same as county and salem schools do on standardized tests. We just have a different enrollement makeup.

My kids are at Patrick Henry. It's a good school when you're in AP classes, fine arts, and the vo-tech classes, but the regular curriculum is poor. With involved parents it's a good education, without involved parents it's very sad. Many city school students have a lot more to deal with than suburban kids do, and it shows in their test scores. My kids are getting a fine education at Patrick Henry, not just with regard to academics, but with regard to how things work in the real world.
