Did a search and radon only came up once. Is radon testing required before a home is sold? Radon seems to be a big deal in western NC, so I'm assuming its also present in Roanoke.

Default Radon

I don't know if the test is required but I have heard from people buying homes around here that the inspectors test for radon in the home inspection.
Due to the geology of this area it has a higher incidence of radon, just like
western NC.
I don't think many people know about radon but I have seen local companies who specialize in its removal. I've never heard it as a big problem.
The Roanoke Valley Assoc of Realtors would probably give you better info. Good Luck!

I don't think it was required when we bought our house a few years ago but it was offered at the time of our home inspection and we took it. I asked the inspector about it and he said that radon isn't what he would call common but it certainly isn't unheard of either. I have looked at a lot of homes for sale in Roanoke City and have only come across one that had a radon removal system in it. It must not have frightened away buyers since the house sold after only a very short time on the market.

I would certainly have the test done before moving in a place. It is money well spent for peace of mind.
