Thumbs up Moving to South Roanoke Did I get a good deal?

Hey Everyone! I am just so excited because I signed my lease today!!! I have been transferred to the area with Ukrop's and have been living in a hotel for over 2 months now. Anyway I was wondering if I got a good deal on my apartment because before I found this apartment I was at my wits end! I viewed dump after dump!! This apartment is located in a VERY VERY small complex on the corner and 26th and Longview ave. SW. It is a 1 bedroom very small approx. 700 sq. ft. apartment with lovely refinished hardwood floors, TALL 10'+ ceilings, all utlities includeing water, heat ect. except electric included for $510.00 a month. The area seems to be very nice. I am not real familiar with Roanoke yet but people say its the best area area. Not to mention close to work!! Well let me know what you think! Thanks!!

hey, i'd say that for the area, utilities included, and proximity to work...you did ok! and you seem happy about it too, so that's the main thing. if you can afford it, and you like the place, you're good! congrats!

Based on what I've seen in the rental market, you have a good deal, especially in South Roanoke and with utilities included. Hope you enjoy the Roanoke Valley.

Let me put this in perspective. I live a street away (stephenson) in a duplex and i pay $760/month with only water included.
I'd say you're doing ok, plus you can walk to work.
Granted my duplex is about 1400 sq ft, 2 bd, 1.5 bth, back deck, off street parking, etc., what you really pay for is the neighborhood...its beautiful. Check out Fork in the Alley on Crystal Spring Ave, great brick oven pizza.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Welcome to Roanoke.

Default :(

I was just looking through some of my first posts here on city-data for my Roanoke move over 2 years ago and here it is the VERY FIRST of my postings. I am so sad now I might go cry I will miss Roanoke so much as I have become semi-attatched to it although I know it is time to move on to begin another chapter in my life. I just hope Northern Va treats me well. Thanks Roanokers for being so good to me! 2 more weeks and I am offically moving!! By the way this apartment ended up being perfect for me, have been in it for the intire two years I have been in Roanoke and wouldnt have changed that for anything.

You haven't signed up with NoVa for life! Something awesome will happen up there - and who knows...you might be back in ROA one day (as we hope to do!) - hope the move goes well - it was good to meet you in the produce aisle...

Congrats on Harris Teeter! Do you like the company as much as you loved Ukrops? I know Ukrops really was a family to it's employees. Hope they treat you right & please keep us posted :-)
