Default Can you tell me about Lebanon VA & surrounding towns?

Hi everyone;

I'm going to be interviewing in Lebanon for several positions soon, and wondered what you could tell me about it, and the surrounding towns? I've been to Abingdon & Bristol, which I like, but haven't ventured north of there. What are the school systems like? We have 2 children in High School, & one in Middle School? Recreational activities for teens/tweens? Community events, civic activities? What are the winters like? We live in upstate NY, so are used to 20 below zero without windchill in the winter, and up to 3 foot of snow in one day (and are trying to get away from that!) Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I had also read that the Russell County DSS is having a major turnover of employees recently. Does anyone know why this is?

I can't speak to the schools & jobs where you're looking -- it's pretty rural so not my cup of tea -- but as someone who moved from the Finger Lakes to Roanoke, I can tell you you will be happy with the winters here. I miss all the snow (loved snowshoeing) but I don't miss winter lasting from Halloween through Mother's Day. We still get all four seasons here, and a bit of snow (and sleet/freezing rain, which nobody can drive in, not even CNYers). And the rolling hills & scalable mountains will remind you of home. It's beautiful here.

Thank you. I've been to Roanoke a number of times, and while it is beautiful, it's a little bit bigger city than we are used to. It will be great to be within a reasonable drive of Roanoke, or Abingdon, Bristol, or Kingsport, but we do prefer the country.

Does anyone else have any information?
