I recently interviewed in Bedford & Lynchburg, and fell in love with both areas, but particularly Bedford. It is a beautiful area, the river, rolling hills, mountain views, and gorgeous old homes.

I really didn't get to spend too much time there, because I was driving all over for interviews. What can you tell me about the area? Housing market (rental first, then buying), stores, pediatricians, veterinarians, restaurants, and schools? I did check out the schools online, and they look very good. What about community life, and community feeling? I hope I get a job offer.

One of the best restaurants in area is Millstone Tea Room north of Bedford. Nice smaller community with easy access to shopping in Lynchburg or even Roanoke. Houses are cheap.

Thank you for the response. I will be going back to Bedford next week for a second interview. Is it a closely knit community? I know it is a city, but the population is rather small for a city. I prefer more rural areas, and Bedford seems to fit the bill.

Any other information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I really like Bedfords location. Roanoke, Smith Mtn Lake, Lycnhburg and Peaks of Otter are all within 30 minutes and the surrounding area is fairly rural. I have a number of friends that live there. It is a very down to earth town compared to Lynchburg and Roanoke. While it's small there is enough shopping for all your day-to-day needs.

Bedford is a sleepy little town. The old homes are outstanding as is the beautiful scenery. One can live there and work/shop, etc in either Roanoke or Lynchburg plus great access to Smith Mountain Lake. I don't know why more people don't live there. They fixed up their downtown but everytime I visit nothing is openThe latest news I read was the Army was building a recruiting center and someone is building a housing development off RT 460?
Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center at the D-Day memorial, the people there are quite good with your requests, plus they have a wealth of information about the area.

Thank you. I will be back there Friday for a second interview, and will be sure to stop by the visitor center. This time I won't be spending the day racing to back to back interviews, and will be able to spend more time in the city and surrounding countryside. I love old houses, and want to drive around and look at them.
