V.A. hospital in Salem
I am a psych travel nurse and may want to travel to the Salem V.A. hospital. Can anyone tell me what it is like to work there? Thanks!

Nice facility. The staff seem happy. I'd like to get in there myself! Sorry I can't tell you more as I don't work there, but it's definitely worth pursuing.
They post on the USA Jobs website.

My mom worked there for some years.
Frankly she didnt like it.
But i think it was more of a case where the job just wasn't for her.
Now she does private nursing for elderly people.
From what I've seen though, the staff seem pretty happy.
I guess its just something you would have to experience and make the judgement for yourself.

Thanks for the responses. If someone works the psych unit or knows someone who does, please add your comment.

I have a friend who is a nurse at the VA Salem and she likes working there.
Its a huge complex and I visited there with an elderly veteran and I was generally impressed with the facility. The people there seemed pleasant although quite hectic with the numbers of people coming and going.

Yeah I have a friend and he used to be in the nursing staff but has - for about the past year - been moving more in a directorial role. I'm not sure he loves playing the heavy but he does enjoy the job. And another friend of mine and fellow North Cross parent has been a surgeon there for 8 years now and he likes it alot. It's a pretty diverse place. I get from conversation that the VA hires more foreign trained physicians than other regional hospitals so it's a bit of a melting pot.
