Noticed today that the equipment and supplies are beginning to show up at the Valley View southbound exit. I'm assuming construction will start there soon. With a lot of bridge work planned, I'd assume there will be lane closures. Combine that with the Elm Ave work on 581 and rush hour traffic could get very interesting for a while.

These are all good changes, but will cause headaches for some time.

Yes, I noticed construction equipment at that interchange also. If VDOT doesn't build the interchange after 20 years of planning for it I hope Roanoke City can get its $7 million back that we gave to the state for nothing. Also, does anyone have an update on the construction of the I81 Troutville exit which Botetourt County officials are still unsure of how many businesses will be affected or forced out of business? If the truck stop is demolished in August will it leave Botetourt scratching their heads?

I emailed someone from VDOT about a week ago asking about the I-581 interchange, and they said construction should begin sometime in late June or July. As for the I81 Troutville exit, I believe I read somewhere that the truck stop is being allowed to stay open until November, before its demolished.

Thanks for the link, what a huge project for that congested mixed up unplanned intersection! Losing the truck stop will hurt
But it might be wise for trucks to find another location in a more rural area. I just heard from Jason Bond on the Valley View interchange and construction is starting on the project now. With all of the new road construction underway or planned here
And on top of our inadequate road system now, I think we are in for a lot of frustration in the months ahead. Not to mention
Broken storm drains on Orange Ave
