HELP!! Need a rental home in Roanoke VA (Salem: rental homes, mortgage)

My fiance and I are planning to relocate to Roanoke. We recently vacationed in Salem, VA and absolutely loved the area. He's assigned me the task of finding a place to live. We're both not from the area. However, I live only two hours away so we had assumed it would be easy. This is not the case however. So if anyone of you knows of anyone who is renting a home in or around the Salem area please let me know. We are looking for a two, preferably three bedroom home that is in a nice location. Rental property is kind of tough to find in the Roanoke valley. Most people buy as soon as they can. You might try Craigslist.com; they have some rentals on there.

If you check with a realtor, they might be able to help you find someone whose house has been on the market for a while and would like to rent it out (especially if it's vacant).

I would also check the online classifieds of the Roanoke Times. Here's the site.
You might find it sort of frustrating that the price you pay on a monthly rent might be half again (or even twice) what your monthly mortgage payment on the same home would be. And yes...oddly enough, Roanoke does not seem to be a big "house rental" area. Not sure why.

A lot of people don't advertise rental homes in the paper or elsewhere. I see signs all over the place for rent. There are several in my area (Wasena) which is a great neighborhood (I have lived here for 9 years) and is close to everything!
