jus an ole country gurl
This is a funny thread.... being from Texas I can very much relate and being from southeast texas... well i think we have our own language because even folks an hour up the road tell us we talk funny.
I lived in Washington state for 15 years with people knowing I was southern the moment I opened my mouth... although most of them deny that they even have an accent. (They say they just talk normal...lol)
Now this Buchanan thing.... I began saying "BUH-Can-An".... only to hear all the locals say "Buck-Han-An".... so please someone help me out here on the correct pronunciation? Could the real Buchanan please stand up???

See, I would say it like BEW-cannon but my husband said he thought they were saying "bu-cannon" or something like that
It seems everywhere I've lived, there's a few strange pronunciations. I think that's just to be able to decipher to "foreigners" from the locals, lol

I'm still in east TN and there's a Buchanan County here and the locals pronounce it as Buck-a-non County. It's just me maybe, but I pronounce it like Byoo-Canon.

There is a town called Buchanan a bit further up north from Roanoke that is also pronounced BUCK-CANNON.

heeheee... i knew that one would make ya laugh ..... I guess every state has those kind of towns... we have a "Buna" up the road that's pronounced "Bewna" but "foreignors" call it "Boona". Ahhh we all have our little quirky towns don't we.
