Question Roanoke details

Our move to Roanoke is looking more and more probable. At this point I'm interested in learning about the details of living there (is there an Asian grocery store, which orthodontist would be best for newcomer kids who already have braces, where should I get my old Subaru worked on, etc.)

Is there a forum where people talk about everything RV/NRV? A virtual town hall where people grumble about roadwork crews and taxes, and chat about local sports and parenting and crime etc.? Craigslist just isn't cutting it. Something like the Syracuse paper's forums page near where we live now.

Before we moved here I was able to learn I needed a roof rake, something I had never heard of and definitely needed! We won't be needing it in Roanoke though

The forum that you are looking for...you're on it! Most of your potential questions have most likely been addressed here somewhere. Have fun reading back through the threads here...lots of info. There are at least 2 Asian markets...one on Williamson Road and another on Peters Creek Rd. I would imagine that someone will chime in here with some good orthodontist recommendations. Welcome to Roanoke!

Thanks, I've read through threads, and there's a lot of info. This forum is kept active by about a half-dozen or so posters, who give a great intro to potential newcomers, but many many cities have the kinds of varied forums I linked to in my OP, and I'd be surprised if Roanoke (or some individuals in Roanoke with their own sites) didn't have one too.

Hi there,

Both on Peters Creek Road are a good orthodontist (Dr. McCorkle) and First Team Auto Mall which has a large Subaru dealership. We go to both places and have been very pleased!

McCorkle's practice is very large and I know lots of people who go there (I go there as an adult). I'm impressed that the office runs so efficiently and I am always called on time for my appointment. I get in/out quickly.

My husband is a Subaru guy and takes his Outback for service at First Team.

Let us know if you have more questions!

bonnie007 is on a distinguished road
My husband and I have been here since June. We live in Blue Ridge (Botetourt Co.) and love it. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. We have found a dentist and we really liked the doctor we chose but he has moved back to his home of Richmond. Any ideas for a family practice MD?

Glad to see a separate Roanoke forum.

Smile Dr.Alba

Hey Funny we moved here around the same time! I too am happy to see a seperate Roanoke forum!! I found a pretty good doctor.. Dr. Alba at the Lewis-Gale family Care center Clearbrook. The number to his office is 540-725-3060. I have only been to him a couple times but he is very welcoming and friendly. Good luck!! Hope your enjoying living here as much as I am!
