Hi Y'all ~ Can you tell me where to find some really good, local live bluegrass music at a small to mid-size indoor venue?

Also, we'd like to find some landscape photographs from local artists. Can you recommend any nearby studios or exhibits where we might find some photography from this area? We are aware of the Sidewalk Art Show at Taubman this weekend but looking for other options as well.

Thanks so much!

I know there are some places that have regular jams with whoever shows up.....but I have found the Floyd Country Store to be my favorite venue for bluegrass!

They have jams and concerts but Friday night is awesome as you get to see the great dancers at work - and eventually we worked up the courage to get out there and flatfoot with them.

You get four full hours for about five or six bucks. It does get crowded but the cool thing is that you can come in and out. If the weather is great there are folks jamming out on the streets. 6:30 to 7:30 is always gospel without dancing. So if you don't like that wait until 7:30. There are usually two groups - with an intermission around 9. So make sure you stay until at least 9:30 to hear the second group.

Once we went to a live radio show in Mt. Airy NC and it did not nearly measure up to what we heard in Floyd.

We have been to the Blue Ridge Music Center (farther away than Floyd) and they have quite a schedule of summer concerts but it is an outdoor amphitheatre. The one time we went to attend a concert they had a power failure and it got moved to the Rex Theater in Galax. That's another good location for bluegrass!

Finally, check out the CROOKED ROAD web site. Has a lot of info!

Thank you, Watchful. We were hoping to find something in Roanoke. We have a visitor coming who wants to hear some live bluegrass but we don't want to drive to Floyd. Thanks for the information all the same. Hope you're doing well.
