My sister and I were planning on moving to Lynchburg more than a few years ago. Things happened and the move didn't. Now we've started our planning again but am very disturbed/confused about a couple of things.

Number One: We've called numerous rental agencies (we're looking to rent, hopefully, a house) and NO ONE calls us back. I don't understand. Is it because we're out of state? We want to put together at least a few places to see at the same time before we take a trip there.

Number Two: Has Lynchburg changed dramatically? Is it no longer conservative (other than Liberty U, of course.) I saw an article on the front page of a newspaper talking about drag queens??? My sister and I are conservative (me, VERY MUCH SO) and I was surprised by what I read.

Comments, info, anything would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I find it surprising that no real estate agent called you back, since they are in business to make money. That being said, I believe a number of agents prefer buying and selling as they make a lot more commission money than by handling rentals.

I may be repeating something you already know, if so I apologize, but I recommend you look at rentals available on www.zillow.com. That info is sometimes a bit behind and not always fully accurate, but it will tell you who in the Lynchburg area is handling rental inquiries for the kind of property you might be interested in renting. If the contact information has an email address, I recommend that you reach out to them that way as it is probably more reliable than playing telephone tag.

I admit that I don't know Lynchburg well, though I know some people who live in the area. I pass through there now and then thanks to Amtrak and bus connections. Lynchburg previously had a rep of being very conservative thanks to Liberty University. It is growing rapidly and so has an increasing number of people from diverse backgrounds. If you move there, you are likely to find like-minded people if you make an effort to develop a social network through Church, senior centers, and social groups. I think you will find it much more laid back than Boston and I know that it will be cheaper.

Thanks for your Zillow info!! I do know of it and will be checking it out. And thanks also for your heads-up on Lynchburg in general.

Lack of callbacks by many services is all too common in L. Otherwise a great small city going in the right direction. Two new larger performing arts centers. LU going big in sports. CBD undergoing redevelopment.

Thanks, Badger, for responding. I remember you from the first time doing research. You've always been helpful and it's appreciated. But what does CBD mean??
