For the second time, Deschutes have announced that they still are not ready to build and may actually never build here in Roanoke. After all that hype a few years back. In my personal opinion, I couldn't understand how they were going forward with it anyway, with all the local breweries popping up all over the greater Roanoke area. There are a ton of them now. Anyway, here is the link on it:

From what I read the delay is connected to the national market not the local retail scene.

I agree with that too, but the amount of local breweries when they first broke the news compared to how many out there now must have had a certain impact on it, even if it's just an image thing. But it's not just local breweries here. The way I understand it, small time breweries are popping up all over the US.

Olde Salem, 3 Notch'd, Ballast Point, Parkway... all giving pretty stiff competition these days. And others too.

Bad for Deschutes, but good for us! *hic*

Also, to put this another way, why were they so concerned with all the local perks and community involvement if all they were really concerned about would be the national sales.

Maybe I'm not communicating very well.

From what I read, Deschutes is not available in all states - and this was to be their second USA location as part of their nationwide expansion. But since the entire market is apparently a little less bright than originally anticipated - their decision for nationwide expansion (including an east coast location) is on hold. If they go forward it will still be in Roanoke. But the "going forward" has been delayed and may even be cancelled.

So all I was trying to say was that this particular decision was not really connected to the explosion of micro-breweries in the 'Noke.

Difference of opinion. Although I understand the national part of it, I still say the local impact had at least put some significant weight on the scale.

Now if the breweries never surfaced, could they still have decided not to build? Sure.

But in my opinion, it did add it's weight.
