Transportation options- Dulles to Lynchburg
Hi Roanoke are! Mrs. JTGJR and daughter are contemplating a quick 3-day trip to a graduation ceremony at Liberty next week. They don't relish the 3-hr drive from Dulles to Lynchburg in a rental car. Are there any reasonable transportation alternatives from the airport to the Lynchburg area?
Yes, I know, there's air service into Roanoke, but it's greater than 2x the cost in airfare.
Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

There's an Amtrack station in L-burg, I believe. I would assume there is also one accesible from Dulles too. Might want to look into that option.

Thank you j1n. From one of your prior posts, I thought you were in the Lynchburg area. I checked a bit on Amtrac earlier, but didn't have the time to find the closest location to Dulles. And, I fear, the schedules will be so limited that they won't work anyway.

Dulles to L'Burg
If you fly into Dulles you will need to get into downtown DC(Union Station) to get the train to Lynchburg. Its hardly worth your time. The ONLY way from Dulles is to rent a car in my opinion. Everyone in Lynchburg drives to another airport anyway so you will be in the majority!!

I agree. I think by the time you jump through all the hoops to get from airport to train, etc...you'd be much better off renting a car.

Thanks y'all. I've looked at every airport within 200mi of Lynchburg and just can't find a good flight combination. I figure if I can get them into IAD, they can stay at the Marriott that night and drive out to Lynchburg early. Unfortunately, the graduation starts at 9:30am. Now the problem is finding a decent flight for them and that's more difficult since they're LAX Departure is limiting their options. Appreciate your suggestions tho.

I just flew from Seattle into Raleigh and made the much shorter drive up to Lynchburg. One stop each way at Minn and Atlanta. I liked it. You just go out from the airport west on I40 to US 501 and it takes you right to Lynchburg. No traffic after Durham exit.

If you can't make it all the way to Lynchburg that night, I would drive down to Charlottesville which is about 2 1/2 hours from Dulles and 1 hour from Lynchburg.
