Red face Moving from Delaware to Bedford

It had been one of the worst years of my life, I had worked for Giant food in Northern Virginia for the past 20 years.
In August of last year I was a Seafood Department Manager and had been for the past 8 years.
Giant desides to close all of the Seafood Departments and the ones who had less then 25 years were put back to part time, I was one of the one's who was put back to part time.
We couldn't make is financially in Fredericksburg and we had family in Delaware so we thought we would relocate there, OMG what a big mistake
even with all my experience in a grocery store I can't find a full time job here either.
I was making good money at Giant almost 20 dollars an hour but it had taken me 20 years to get there, I come here to Delaware and they are wanting to start me out at 8.50 an hour and the working conditions are really bad.
I have a son who moved to Bedford with his family last year after buying a house and they went way overboard and are having a hard time financially
because he does construction and his wife is a stay at home mom.
Anyway we are thinking (my husband and myself) of moving down there also. We need to rent a small house or a small mobile home, does anybody know where I would begin to look?
And also Im kind of afraid to make this move on count of us not being able to find a job, could anybody tell me just how hard it's going to be please.
Any info you could give me would be greatly appriciated.
Thank You So Much,
Jackie Moore

I'm sorry to hear about your lay off experiences. While Bedford is a charming town, if you want to live there, you will probably have to commute to Roanoke to find a job. Best of luck.

I happened to be the City of Bedford yesterday, and was in and out of a number of retail locations, shopping and chatting with individuals who were both employees and business owners. Without my asking the question, several pointed out that one needs to make the commute to either Roanoke or Lynchburg to find a job that paid anything to speak of.
