Any suggestions on how to find them? Everyone I talk to wants to drop off tiny babies on up with the first person that charges <$100 per week!! Yikes! My husband and I are thinking about making up flyers to drop off around the hospitals, hoping doctors will need a professional sitter/nanny. I am willing to drive far, if that's what it takes. Should I market to Bedford County as well (I'm on the border between Roanoke & Bedford Counties)? Would I find a better or worse market there as compared to Roanoke? ...I was hoping to make $10/hr.

For a day, right? I don't know if I would trust someone for only $100 a week. Yikes! $20 a day to take care of my child? That's what, not even $3 an hour for a 7 hour day? I think we paid $150/week 6 years ago for someone we were happy with and that was reasonable compared to others. Actually, that was a bargain!

I've noticed that, too! I'm considering watching another child close to my son's age part time (2 1/2 days a week) and would be compensated very well, but she did specify she wanted someone with a degree in elementary education (which I have). I don't understand the low child care rates here either. I'm very surprised by the ads and the requests I see on Craigslist. Personally, an ad that's headlined "Cheapest child care in the Area!" would be a total turn off if I was looking for child care and I see that often on there. I think advertising at hospitals would be a good idea! Also, maybe at some of the larger churches in the area? We had a bulletin board at my old church for things like that.

I didn't realize I had gotten any responses! I just now saw this. Glad to know I'm not the only one surprised by this. I have found one family in Cave Spring area for PT work so far. Hopefully more are coming soon.

I live in the cave spring area. I have children who are in school during the day. I have a 2 year old who stays home with me. I'm looking to make some extra income. I do not have a degree yet, I go to school for health care. I also participated in a child care class.
