Default I need advice about relocation...

...I'm torn between Lynchburg, VA and Chattanooga, TN. I don't have the money to go visit both of them (hotels, etc.). I guess I just want anyone's opinion on the difference between the two.

I'm a middle-aged Caucasian Christian, political conservative (I KNOW that's o.k. in Lynchburg...). I don't currently drive nor have a car (either one of them doable?)

Ideas? Comments? Anything? (I posted this in the Chattanooga site, too, so please forgive my redundancy).

Demographically, you'd fit in well in Lynchburg, but you'd probably struggle without a car.

Do you think that I'd struggle more without a car in Lynchburg or Chattanooga?

One option is to go to google maps and center on Chattanooga or any city you're considering. Then use the find businesses tool and search for grocery, or restaurant, or salon, or or church, or barber, etc. You'll get pinpoints of matches, and then you can get a sense for how walkable a city is, and in particular, how walkable certain parts of a city are.

If you want to live in Lynchburg, and not use a car for transportation, there are a couple of neighborhoods that are ideal. Rivermont, around Randolph College and Riverside Park has frequent bus service and shopping/amenities within easy walking distance. Fort Hill has frequent service and even more things that are walking distance or a direct short bus ride away. Areas to avoid when considering bus service- Timberlake, Forest, Madison Heights (very ltd. svc.), and any other suburb. The bus service, GLTC, has routes that service many major employers.
