I'm considering your question over some fine local Roanoke pizza , and I'd have to say, no, not necessarily.

The 2 best pizza places I've found since moving here 4 years ago are New York Pizzeria in Vinton and the so far unmentioned Pizza Pasta Pit in Salem. Pizza Pasta Pit is located behind the Wachovia Bank on the corner of Apperson and Electric. You owe it to yourself to check it out. Great outdoor eating area in nice weather too!

I'm gonna have to try Fork in the Alley's pizza. I've only ate there once and got one of those soggy sandwiches they have since it was recommended to me. Wasn't impressed with the sandwich but I'll have to stop back for the pizza.

New York Pizza is hands down the best.

Frank's is pretty good too.

Grace's makes good pizza, but their service is absolutely horrible. We live close to them, and we used to eat there at least once a week. Over the last year their services has consistently gotten worse and worse. We won't go back.

Fork in the City is another option too - same owners as Fork in the Alley with a new location downtown (next to the Jefferson Center).

I like it when a pizza place uses fresh toppings. No mushrooms from a can, please! Yuck!

We've always had good service at Grace's and found fresh toppings there, as well as fresh toppings at Fork in the Alley/Fork in the City.

Not all fresh toppings at New York Pizza so we won't be going back!

Toppings at NY Pizza may not be fresh, but the crust is what makes it...

At least, for me...
